STAND BY YOUR MAN: THE Tam WYNETTE STORY AUDITIONS TO TAKE PLACE IN NEW YORK ON May 15th & 16th Nashville, Tenn. (April 20, 2001) Auditions for the highly anticipated new musical event at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., Stand By Your Man: The Tam Wynette Story, part of the BellSouth Musical Series, will take place May 15th and 16th from 9:30 am 5:30 pm in New York City, by appointment only. Stand By Your Man: The Tam Wynette Story is a new musical, written to celebrate the life and work of the legendary first lady of country music, Tam Wynette. This production will premiere at the historic Ryman Auditorium on September 13th through October 28th, 2001. In order to be considered for the auditions, please send a headshot and a resume to: Stand By Your Man: The Tam Wynette Story Auditions Conducting the auditions will be writer Mark St. Germain, producer Carolyn Rossi Copeland and newly appointed director, Gabriel Barre. Barre most recently directed the national tour of Cinderella and he is currently directing a new musical workshop based on the feature film Mask. Other directing credits include: a new musical based on the Summer of '42 that moves to Broadway in the fall of 2001, The Wild Party at the Manhattan Theatre Club which garnered both Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for Best Director of a new musical. He also directed Dorian, a new musical, at the Goodspeed Opera House, the off-Broadway production of Stars In Your Eyes at the Cherry Lane Theatre and The Jazz Singer, a new pre-Broadway workshop about the life of Al Jolson. On his appointment, Barre replied, "I am tremendously excited about this project. I am looking forward to creating what we believe will be a unique, moving and entertaining theatrical experience. Tam Wynette had a colorful, eventful, at times difficult life, which was full of surprises and unexpected turns. It is our hope that the show will be a joy for all and that everyone, whether avid fan or not, will find it fascinating and fun. Stand By Your Man: The Tam Wynette Story will be performed by amlti-talented cast of actor musicians who will play the members of Tam Wynette's band (including her two female backup singers) and will also play various characters from her life including each of her five husbands. While the show will represent her life honestly it will ultimately serve to honor her and those who loved her. We so look forward to working and performing this show in Nashville and collaborating with its theatrical and musical community." The auditions are to fill four female roles, a young Tam Wynette (late teens to mid-twenties), amture Tam (over 25) and two actresses to play several diverse characters in the ages of 20 to 30 and over. In addition, they will be looking for actors, ages 20-25, to play the five male roles. These actors should be proficient instrumentalists on one of the following: acoustic guitar, electric guitar, fiddle, pedal steel guitar, bass and drums. All performers must be available from July through October. The auditions will be May 15th and 16th. Vocalists should prepare two songs of contrasting styles and tempo. Please bring your own tracks or piano sheet music in the appropriate key. A tape player, cd player and pianist will be provided. Instrumentalists will be asked to play from a chart, or lead music. On the daunting task of finding the perfect actress to play Wynette, producer Rossi Copeland said, "Creating a new musical is exciting but this musical is based on an extraordinary talent. Because Tam is so beloved we have an awesome responsibility. Luckily, the talented team we have formed is up to the task. We look forward to the auditions and finding our Tam and opening in Nashville in September." Stand By Your Man: The Tam Wynette Story will chronicle the life of one of the most revered and heralded artists of all time across all musical genres. The musical celebrating her life runs from September 13th through October 28th at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. Performances will be every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8PM (the last show is Sunday, October 28th). Tickets are $32 & $24 for adults and $16 & $12 for children under 12.
