RYMAN AUDITORIUM ANNOUNCES NEW PRODUCTION FOR THE BELLSOUTH MUSICAL SERIES - STAND BY YOUR MAN: THE Tam WYNETTE STORY
Auditions to be held for the lead role in Nashville and New York City

NASHVILLE, TN (February 14, 2001) The historic Ryman Auditorium announced plans today for production of a new musical based on the life of legendary "First Lady of Country Music" - Tam Wynette. Stand By Your Man: The Tam Wynette Story, a part of the BellSouth Musical Series, will run from September 13 - October 28. It is written by Mark St. Germain (The Gifts of the Magi) and produced by Gaylord Entertainment and Carolyn Rossi Copeland.

To find the perfect "Tam," auditions will be held in both Nashville and New York. On April 9th and 10th the Ryman Auditorium will be host for the first of the two. New York auditions will be held on April 18th and 19th at a location to be announced later. For the latest information go to www.ryman.com .

The musical will chronicle the life of one of the most revered and heralded artists of all time across all musical genres. Throughout Tam's life she battled poverty, loneliness, addiction, abuse, heartache and eventually poor health. Her songs mirrored her often-troubled romantic life and this willingness to share her joys and sorrows and her passionate, tear-in-every note delivery endeared her to millions of fans across the world.

As the first woman in country music to sell amllion albums she earned the moniker "First Lady of Country Music." Throughout her illustrious career she also earned two Grams, 16 BMI songwriting honors, 50 top 10 hits, 20 #1 singles and sold 40 million records and was inducted (posthumously) into the Country Music Hall of Fame. "Stand By Your Man," Tam's signature hit, is still the highest selling single in country music history.

Wynette herself stood by five husbands, most notably the great country crooner George Jones, with whom she recorded numerous hit duets. Their tumultuous 1969 marriage and 1975 divorce (which she blamed on "my naggin' and his nippin'") became the stuff of country-music legend--as did a 1978 kidnapping, a romance with Burt Reynolds, and an addiction to painkillers. She eventually found long lasting love with her long-time friend and collaborator, George Richey. The two stayed happily married until her death on April 6, 1998 at their Nashville home.

Three days later, fans and members of the music industry honored her with a world-wide televised memorial service broadcast live from Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. Beginning on September 15th, performances will be every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8PM (the last show is Sunday, October 28th). Tickets are $32 & $24 for adults and $16 & $12 for children under 12. Beginning today, they can be purchased at the Ryman Box Office, by calling Grand Ole Opry Group Customer Service at 615/889-3060, online at www.ryman.com or at all Ticketmaster outlets.

The Ryman Auditorium is located at 116 5th Avenue North in Nashville, TN. The Ryman Auditorium is part of Gaylord Entertainment Company, a diversified entertainment company operating in three business groups: hospitality and attractions, creative content and interactive media. Its headquarters are in Nashville, Tenn., and its stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: GET).
