THE HISTORIC RYMAN AUDITORIUM HOSTS LEGENDARY "ALL-STAR BLUEGRASS CELEBRATION" PBS EVENT (NASHVILLE, Tenn.) ---"The All-Star Bluegrass Celebration," a special PBS taping featuring some of the biggest stars in bluegrass music, was held at the historic Ryman Auditorium on Wednesday, January 16. Hosted by Ricky Skaggs, the sold out event featured performances by Vince Gill, Patty Loveless, Alison Krauss + Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, Nickel Creek, Del McCoury Band, Travis Tritt, Dan Tyminski, and Bruce Hornsby.
The event was called "legendary" by several performers due to the caliber of stellar artists playing bluegrass music in one show on the same night at the Ryman. The significance and popularity of bluegrass today more than ever can be attributed to the great traditions set forth by pioneers such as Earl Scruggs and the late Bill Monroe, along with the interest in the genre created by newcomers such as Nickel Creek. Emmylou Harris and Ralph Stanley were featured in the limited release documentary "Down From The Mountain," which was filmed at the Ryman at a similar concert last year. The "All-Star Bluegrass Celebration" will air on PBS in February 2002.
The Ryman Auditorium is located at 116 Fifth Avenue North in Nashville, TN. The Ryman Auditorium is part of Gaylord Entertainment Company, a diversified entertainment company operating in three business groups: hospitality and attractions, creative content and interactive media. Its headquarters are in Nashville, Tenn., and its stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: GET).
